Dr. Kristine Rivera

History/Education

Dr. Rivera was born and raised in Omaha, NE, the fourth of six children. Dr. Rivera received her B.A. in biology and English Literature from Hastings College in Hastings, NE. She met her husband on the track and cross country team at Hastings. She then went to medicial school at Des Moines University, Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Dr. Rivera completed her Family Medicine Residency at Southern Colorado Family Medicine/St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, CO. She became Board Certified in Family Medicine in 2004. She previously worked at The Pueblo Community Health Center from 2004-2007. She then worked at The University Family Medicine Center from 2008-2012. She then joined The Family Clinic of Fort Collins in June of 2012 and became a partner by August 2013. As of July 2019, Dr. Rivera is a 11-year breast cancer survivor. She had stage III disease at 33 years old. She completed extensive treatment including surgery, chemotherapy, herceptin treatments, and radiation. This had a profound effect on her perspective as a health care provider to have gone through so much in the role of patient.

Professional Interests

She believes in taking what she learned in her professional and personal experiences and using them to be a better wife, mother, physician, and person. She feels fortunate to have been introduced to Osteropathic Medicine, and she has a special interest in utilizing OMT (Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments), when appropriate, to help improve patients' health and quality of life.

Personal Interests

Dr. Rivera and her husband have been married since 2001. They have two daughters, who bring them much joy and love. As a family, they all enjoy camping, hiking, swimming, and attending musicials and concerts. They enjoy traveling and running as well. They love all the different places Fort Collins have to offer for their interests. They also feel very fortunate to have Faith at the center of their family and their lives.
